K, so last night was the Losing Focus show at Shannon's Irish Pub with Status Red, Pure Karma, and The Playing Cards opening.
- First band was The Playing Cards. They're alright, songs are sorta catchy, but at the same time, a bit on the boring side. Still, not bad though. They have a Myspace somewhere, you'll find it eventually...
- Next up was Status Red. Since Tom J quit the band, I filled in for bass and vox. I think we did alright, got the crowd to laugh a bit, y'know... Had a fun time dedicating a song to Julia's mom. She was embarrassed, haha. Oh, but I forgot the words to Blitzkrieg Bop, so I mumbled the lyrics. How I managed to forget? Beyond me. Whatever.
- After us, Pure Karma was up. This band is fronted by Tristan in grade 12. I personally think Tristan is a great singer, and they do "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer so well. Dead on. Sounded great.
- Headlining the night was Carleigh's brother's band Losing Focus. It was my first time seeing these guys, though I had previously listened to them due to the fact that they were on River City Rawks 2004. These guys sound great live. Hopefully they can get some all ages shows going at a different venue.
So all in all, it was a good night. I was a little sketched out at first because I wasn't sure if my friends would be able to get in, but never the less, I thank them for sneaking in to come watch ;).
Good night. |

Kirk's a great drummer. I think the band is coming together nicely.
Now, if only Sick City or The Alibi would answer our requests for them to headline a show at the Ellice Theatre... |

Today I went to Andrew's house and I practiced with Status Red for the first time. To my surprise, we sounded alright since we had never played music together before. I'm now not worried too much about the show that we're supposed to do at the end of this month with Losing Focus.
The end.
Peace. |

| Julia's Party |
[Feb. 11th, 2006|01:05 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | confused | ] | So tonight was the night of Julia's party at her house. Originally, she just wanted around 30 of her friends to be there. You know, just chill out and have a good time. But hey, you know, that's not gonna hold up. So word gets out, and a lot more people than originally planned showed up. But of course, we saw it coming.
Anyway, for the most part, I personally had a good time. Just talking with people I hadn't seen lately, and so on.
Skip a few chapters... EK was really drunk somewhere in there, by the way :p.
Cops show up, a lot of people kinda just hopped the fence and left. I was with Megan, so we just went to Mac's to get snacks. We also met up with Brooke and Chelsea, and headed back to Julia's when we heard the coast was clear.
... 20 minutes later, something like three grade 12 Dakota girls show up, screaming about something that apparently happened earlier in the night which supposedly was Julia spitting at one of them? Yeah, okay, BULLSHIT. So they find Julia, who by the way was in no shape to "apologize". She felt like shit as it was. So there they are, screaming at her to apologize and practically kiss their asses and make 'em feel special. All this while her friends are defending her and mostly asking, or telling them to leave. Stubborn fucks that they are, they wouldn't. So a few scuffles break out, nothing serious. Jaime Wiebe is a tough girl, don't mess with that :).
So near the end, since they're so fucking tough, they get their jock/druggie boyfriends involved. Nothing too serious happened there, either. Buddy got taken down by one of the bald, big guys, but fuck, whatever.
Outside, one of them went on to pull a knife on Steve... He booked it to safety, obviously.
Afterwards, me and Jesse J just went home. That kind of spoiled the night, that wasn't so magnificient to begin with. It's unfortunate that I had to see such shit go down.
In conclusion, I hope Julia feels better soon, forgets about this whole thing, and so forth.
Peace. |

So apparently I'm playing bass for Status Red on Februray 26th at Shannon's Irish Pub, since Tom quit the band. Now all they need is a singer... sketchy. |

Wow, what a day.
After school, myself, Mark, and Julia headed over to Portage and checked out St. John's, Qwest, and Encore Music. Afterwards we went to Polo Park to get something to eat. Interestingly enough, Mark met up with these two guys who seemed to like to snowboard. One guy said he was sponsored by Volcom and also mentioned he used to be the drummer in No Use For A Name. I smell bullshit. They invited us to see Underworld 2, but meh. We just went back to St. Vital instead.
Upon arriving, Spencer, Lucas, and whoever else was with them were in search of some grade 10 party that was put on by Spencer Finlay, though I don't really know who that is. So we followed them, and just went on in. BUNK! Just a bunch of people thinking they're tanked and freaking out 'cuz mommy and daddy have to come pick them up later. The host was getting pretty antsy about how many people showed up too. Honestly, the highlight of this "party" was Randy pouring Kool-Aid into beer bottles in the kitchen, spilling some, and actually taking the time to wipe it up.
So Mark swiped stuff, and we left.
Off to Steve B's where I found a buzzed Jesse Johnson. He stood on a plastic lawn chair, and it snapped. Surprise, surprise. Typical thing of him to do, putz. Everyone else there was kinda, ehhh...
Eventually I just bussed home with Korey and called it a day.
Ok, good night. |

So, what've I been up to lately...
Yesterday, I bought tickets to The Bled for myself, Tom, and Julia. I'm only going 'cuz Protest The Hero is opening though.
I also bought the new edition of Ferris Bueller's Day Off on DVD. Sweeeeeeet.
Oh, hey, what ever happened to Warped Tour coming to Winnipeg? For the last few months, I heard nothing but rumors of this and that, confirmed dates in some music magazines, blah fucking blah. Then I check the Warped Tour website with the confirmed 2006 dates, and surprise surprise, Winnipeg's not on there. But oh well, I was already gonna go to the Calgary show anyway. It just would've been cooler to go twice. :)But regardless, someone fill me in.
Aaaaand, not much happened today. I just hung out with Julia and Haley after school for a few hours, then headed over to EK's with Jesse.
Good night.
PS. The Anthony Kiedis "Scar Tissue" autobiography is a good read, check it. |

| | Dolphin Striker - Half This PlaceIs Pink | ] | Wow, I haven't updated in a while.
Ok ok, so here's what I've been up to lately:
Friday night: I went to a show at the WECC with Jaime, Julia, Lucas, Spencer, Michelle, Mark, Buddy, and Adam. It was the Joe Strummer/The Clash tribute show, so the sets by The Wind-Ups, The Farrell Bros., and The Sub City Dwellers consisted of a few covers of Clash songs in there. Very cool.
Saturday: I just kinda hung around with EK for a while, then went to work. It's pretty busy again at the restaurant, but I ended up getting out at 9:10. Amaaaaazing. One of the cooks really wanted to go home to watch some playoff football, so we kinda rushed everything. Didn't even have to do it half-assed!!
Sunday: I went to another show at West End with Duncan, Scott, and Mark. This one was the Afterbeat's CD release party with The Barrymores and Sick, Sick, Sick. This show was pretty cool too, since all of these bands are doing alright at what they do.
All in all, it was a pretty good weekend for me.
Tonight, Iiiiiii don't know what I'm gonna do. Probably end up going to the mall and bugging Carleigh, 'cuz I know how much she likes having Mark around her kiosk ;). |

| [ | mood |
| | okay | ] | So today was the last day of school, and even though it was a shorter week, it seemed to take forever to get over with. So everyone's all fully excited for Christmas now, good good.
Anyway, yesterday I hung out with Cassi at my place. What an amaaaazing girl she is to hang out with.
Today after school, I stayed with her at school until she absolutely had to go home. Sadly, it was goodbye to each other until I get back from my trip. Later on, EK and I went to Joey's Only for supper. Not to mention I get a discount for eating there. Afterwards, I met up with Steve Neil and Mark to hang out, which was alright.
So on boxing day I gotta get up real early to get my ass to the airport to fly to Toronto. I'm gonna visit my dad for something like 10 days over the holidays. If we find time we'll for sure head down to Buffalo, New York. I'm excited for that.
Anyway, it kind of sucks I can't be home for the entire holiday. There's quite a few people I'd like to spend time with. I'm gonna miss a lot of people, I have to admit. Insert your name here: __________________
Have a good one. |

So my weekend went alright.
Friday night, I hung out with Cassi and Megan. After leaving Megan's, I ended up hanging out with Cassi for a few hours more at my place 'til she could get a ride home. Thx, Kevin!!
Saturday, I hung out with EK. We went to the mall, he was in search of a Christmas gift for his sister. Afterwards, we watched The 40 Year Old Virgin at his place. Great movie. Later on, I worked. It was super slack for a Saturday night. I got out at 9:30. I was amazed.
Today, I just jammed with Zach and Chaz. It was alright.
Aaaaand, that's all. I leave for Toronto on Boxing Day, which'll suck. I'm gone for 10 days. Boo-urns. |

So tonight I went out for dinner with my mother. The occasion? Her birthday. Yep. So it was my first time at Montanas. It's not too bad, I'll say. Though, if it's your birthday, they'll make you wear some stupid hat with moose antlers... embarrassing.
Oh, and I got DirecTV now. I can watch all the, erm, educational programming I want now... ;) |

Alright, so my day didn't go along with what was originally planned. But it wasn't too bad in the end.
I didn't end up jamming with Zach, he had to do other things. So... maybe next weekend. I did end up hanging out with Megan, Dan (Meg's friend), and Cassi. We went to Joey's Only for lunch, and headed over to EK's after. It's pretty cool how EK can entertain us with just a GameCube and a big pile o' Lego. Pretty sweet. He's the man.
Yeah.. |

So I had an okay day for a Saturday:
Went downtown to check out O Calcutta and Portage Place with Jesse J and EK. Afterwards, we all hung out 'til 9-ish. Later on I ended up going to Julia's to hang out for a bit while her parents were out. I just got home, pretty much.
But tomorrow, I'm pretty excited for what's supposed to happen:
jamming with Chaz, Flipper, and Zach, then probably seeing Walk The Line with Cassi, Megan, Korey, and Brian :). Should be a good one.
Later, ya'll. |

[Dec. 9th, 2005|11:50 pm] |
So not much has happened lately. I haven't jammed with Zach and 'em for almost two weeks now. Aaaaand what else... nothing? Ok.
Tonight I worked, and it was pretty slow for a Friday. Eh, can't complain.
Woohoo, O Calcutta with Jesse Johnson tomorrow!! What a treat, haha. |

Alright, so if you have a free second, do Jesse a favor and head over to www.supernova.com to vote for his band, First Time Since. To my knowledge, they can win a trip to Toronto on Boxing Day to open for Three Days Grace and Thornley.
Kthxbye. |

So I went to school for 9:15 today to get my report card. It turned out okay, except they screwed up my CAT mark by 10%, I'll have to change that up later. After that, myself, Buddy, Duncan, and Mark went to Osborne Village and checked out Kustom Culture and Music Trader. Afterwards, we went to Long & McQuade to check out some amps and guitars. Buddy ended up buying a nice pedal.
Then off to Pizza Hut across the street for a buffet lunch.
Oh, and when we got back to St. Vital, we decided to drop into Dakota to find Lucas, which we did. But before that, Buddy got interviewed by the CBC about the kid who got hit by the car yesterday. Weird. |

[Nov. 19th, 2005|11:47 pm] |
So today I went to see Jarhead with Leah, Tyne, and Laurel. It was a pretty cool movie. Afterwards, we wandered around the mall and met up with Adam, Alex, and Emily. It was pretty busy in the mall, too.
Eventually, I made my way to work at Joey's. Saturday is the busiest because of some all-you-can-eat shrimp promotion, so I was getting raped all night with getting stuff to clean. I didn't get out 'til 11:15. Shitty. Waaaaaaay too fucking long.
But on a positive note, I was rewarded with a $10 certificate to Famous Players (like I'll ever use it anyway...). |

Tonight I went to the Nine Inch Nails/Queens of the Stone Age/Death From Above 1979 concert with Buddy. Buddy had an extra ticket, so I went with him. Although I enjoyed Queens of the Stone Age the most, I think that Death From Above sounds pretty good in person and that Nine Inch Nails is pretty entertaining as well.
So yeah, that was the hi-light of my weekend. |
